Simply because it would probably be easier to crochet an afghan/blanket than it would be to knit one. I would still knit an afghan/blanket, I just want to try and make something using crochet, so I can objectively say that I prefer knitting (even though I’m 99% sure I do). I can’t get the square…

Try three chains in each corner!  That’s what I do and my squares don’t get distorted like that.  :)

actually, not exactly inspired by. sarah london saw a beauty like this in an episode and, after deciphering the whole thing, posted the pattern for the afghan lovers out there.
a quote from her blog post:

Now for the stitch pattern, it goes by many names, in certain circles it’s known as the Harlequin stitch, the Star Shell, the Wheel stitch and also the Catherine Wheel. Whew!
